About me

Hi there, and welcome! I’m Vera.

I’ve always had a serious sweet tooth. Cookies were my happy place, and trying new desserts was pretty much a hobby. I never really questioned it until a routine blood test showed I was prediabetic. That news stopped me in my tracks. I knew something had to change, but I didn’t know where to start.

The Diet Roller Coaster

Like many people, I jumped into every trendy diet out there. Keto, low-carb, intermittent fasting. If someone recommended it, I tried it. And the truth is, I disliked all of them. I was hungry, irritable, and constantly waiting for the moment when I could “cheat.” Food became something stressful instead of enjoyable, and nothing about it felt sustainable.

What Finally Worked

Everything shifted when I came across a post about low-calorie eating and calorie deficits. For the first time, something actually made sense. It wasn’t about cutting out everything I loved or following a long list of rules. It was about balance. It was about paying attention to portions. It was about finding ways to lighten up the foods I already enjoyed so I didn’t feel deprived.

Once I realized I could make a few simple swaps and still eat the things I loved, everything changed. I finally felt like I had a way forward that didn’t make me miserable.

Where I Am Now

I started this journey at 220 pounds. I am currently down 20, and my first goal is to reach 180. My long-term goal is 150 to 160. I’m not racing through it. I’m focusing on consistency and creating habits that actually fit my life.

That is what this site is all about. I share the recipes, ideas, and strategies that helped me gain control of my health without giving up flavor or joy. If you are looking for lighter meals, low-calorie treats, or just a more approachable way to eat well, you are in the right place.

A Little More About Me

  • My day starts with coffee and a splash of no-sugar creamer.
  • Dessert will always be my favorite part of the day.
  • I believe balance is more important than restriction.
  • I care a lot about helping people unlearn diet culture and find a healthier, kinder way of eating.
  • I live in Pennsylvania with my husband, our three kids, three dogs, and one cat. Our house stays busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why I Started This Blog

I created this blog because I wanted to show that eating lighter does not mean giving up the foods you love. You can enjoy dessert. You can enjoy comfort food. You can enjoy real, satisfying meals and still make progress.

Here, you will find simple low-calorie recipes, lighter desserts, approachable meal ideas, and small changes that make a big difference. I am glad you are here, and I hope you find something that helps you feel excited about eating well again.
